Derbyshire, an English county, recruited former Pakistani bowler Mohammad Amir on Tuesday as an international player.
The former international fast bowler's services have been obtained by the county club, led by South African-Australian cricketer and former Pakistan coach Mickey Arthur, who announced his intention to hire him on social media.
According to a tweet from the cricket team, "Derbyshire have signed former Pakistan fast bowler, Amir, as an overseas player for the first half of the 2024 season."
Amir will be signed as a local player, according to earlier English media reports.
The Telegraph reports that Amir, 31, who retired from international cricket in 2020, will be granted British citizenship in 2019 as a result of his marriage to Narjis Khan, a native of that country.
Amir has prior county cricket experience. He has previously represented Gloucestershire and Essex. Following the agreement with the county club, the pacer will now make his comeback with Derbyshire.
Amir played primarily in T20 competitions throughout the world after his retirement in 2020. He has participated in the Caribbean, Bangladesh Premier League, and Pakistan Super League.
In a spot-fixing case in 2010, the International Cricket Council (ICC) banned Amir, Mohammad Asif, and Salman Butt from playing in international cricket for five years.
Additionally, he completed a portion of a six-month prison sentence at juvenile offenders' facilities in Feltham and Dorset.
The 31-year-old, who made his comeback in 2016, helped Pakistan win the ICC Champions Trophy in 2017, when the Men in Green bamboozled India by 180 runs in the championship match.
Amir is famous for his stunning performance in the championship game, during which he decimated India's top order by getting rid of Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, and Rohit Sharma.
