Dramatic accident at high speed ends Formula E race, leaving many cars crippled.

A high-speed incident transpired during the opening race of the double-header for Formula E in Rome, causing many cars to be unable to go and bringing out the red flag.

Sam Bird, driving for Jaguar at the time and in the lead, seemed to lose control of his vehicle's rear end on turn six of the ninth lap, colliding into the barrier and spinning onto the centre of the circuit.

The accident turned out to be particularly bad for Bird since it occurred on a blind bend where automobiles race at very high speeds, and his immovable car ended itself in the line of incoming vehicles. The turn was later described by the 2016–17 Formula E champion Lucas di Grassi as "probably the most dangerous on this track." 

Sebastien Buemi from Envision Racing made little touch with Bird's vehicle as a result of the original crash, sending him flying into the wall at an angle before coming to a stop.

The collision's participants vented their annoyance, with Buemi's scream expressing his fury and sense of powerlessness. Fortunately, none of the drivers were seriously hurt in the collision, and they were all able to escape unharmed.

Di Grassi, one of the drivers whose race was cut short due to the collision, expressed satisfaction at avoiding hurt after it happened. He praised the FIA and Formula E for their stringent safety regulations, which were essential in defending the drivers. Di Grassi also emphasised the crash's hazardous turn, emphasising its rapid speed and dearth of escape possibilities.

Teams laboured nonstop all night to fix their vehicles in time for the race the following day, despite the collision's considerable damage. As much as one-third of the paddock worked together, according to Formula E commentator Saunders Carmichael-Brown, to share components and get as many cars back on the track for the second race of the doubleheader.

All of the drivers involved in the crash showed incredible resiliency by finishing the following race. Mortara crossed the finish line in fifth place, Bird finished in third, and Buemi took fourth. The incident demonstrated the high-octane character of Formula E and the drivers' unflinching resolve to continue racing in spite of difficulties.
