Due to a planned strike by workers, a UK airport will experience major disruption, delays, and cancellations.

According to a report on Friday by Sky News, up to 1,000 employees at the United Kingdom's London Gatwick Airport will go on an eight-day strike later this month, raising concerns about serious operational delays.


The start of the school summer break will see a walkout by the workers, including luggage handlers and check-in personnel, over a wage issue.


It is "inevitable" that there will be significant disruption, delays, and cancellations, the union claimed.


The walkout will originally last four days, from July 28 (Friday) through August 1 (Tuesday), according to the union.


Then, from August 4 (Friday) until August 8 (Tuesday), they will strike for an additional four days.

Unite stated in their statement that "given the scope of the industrial action, disruption, delays, and cancellations are inevitable throughout the airport."


Thousands of flights throughout Europe this summer are already in danger as a result of air traffic controllers' decision to go on strike. The most recent threat comes at this time.


According to the media site, the industrial action may cause up to 12,600 flights per day, or almost a third of the trips conducted across the continent during the busiest summer travel season, to be delayed or cancelled.


Gatwick, which is situated approximately 30 miles south of London, declared that it will assist airlines with their backup plans to make sure that flights go as planned.
