Mohammad Amir, a former Pakistani speedster, would play for Derbyshire as a local player after obtaining his British citizenship the following year.

The Telegraph reports that the fiery 31-year-old, who retired from international cricket in 2020, will receive British citizenship as a result of his marriage to Narjis Khan, a citizen of the UK.

After signing the contract with the county side, Amir, who has played for Essex and Gloucestershire and has expertise in county cricket, will make a comeback with Derbyshire.

Mickey Arthur, the Pakistani team's director of cricket, serves as the head coach for Derbyshire.

Amir played primarily in T20 competitions throughout the world after his retirement in 2020.

Additionally, he has participated in the Caribbean, Bangladesh Premier League, and Pakistan Super League (PSL).

In a spot-fixing case in 2010, the International Cricket Council (ICC) banned Amir, Mohammad Asif, and Salman Butt from playing in international cricket for five years.

Amir also completed a portion of a six-month term in Feltham and Dorset juvenile offenders institutions.

The 31-year-old, who made his comeback in 2016, assisted Pakistan in winning the ICC Champions Trophy in 2017, as the Men in Green bamboozled India by 180 runs in the championship match.

Amir is famous for his stunning performance in the championship game, during which he decimated India's top order by getting rid of Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, and Rohit Sharma.

Amir is currently playing for the Durban Qalandars in the inaugural Zim Afro T10 League.

The pacer previously discussed whether he might be tempted to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) after becoming a British citizen, and he firmly stated that he would not play for England because he has already represented Pakistan and that is where his loyalties lie.

The bowler stated that he did not want to get ahead of the IPL.

I will not play for England, first of all. I've competed for Pakistan. Second, there is still one year left in the IPL.

"What will the situation look like then? I often claim that I take things slowly. We have no idea what will occur tomorrow, and I'm already considering participating in the IPL in 2024," he remarked.
