The San Antonio Spurs made history by selecting Victor Wembanyama, a 19-year-old basketball prodigy from France, with the first overall selection in the NBA Draught.

Due to the fact that the 7ft 4in (2.24m) youth is widely considered as a once-in-a-generation talent, his entry into the league has been met with jubilant celebrations and great expectation.

The Spurs' decision of Wembanyama was not entirely unexpected given that they had previously locked up the No. 1 overall draught pick. Even so, the skilled player shed a few happy tears when it was revealed that he was the first choice. Wembanyama expressed emotion at the news, "Just doing something that I've been dreaming about my whole life."

Wembanyama is frequently likened to basketball legend LeBron James due to his extraordinary abilities and potential.

Legendary coach Gregg Popovich is in charge of the San Antonio Spurs, and over his successful career, he has led the team to five NBA Championships. Popovich acknowledged his delight at Wembanyama joining the team, but he rejected comparisons to other greats, reiterating his want for Wembanyama to follow his own path.

Wembanyama has the ability to replace departed players like LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant by becoming one of the faces of the NBA for years to come if he lives up to the extremely high expectations that surround him.
