PM orders investigation into Lahore floods

LAHORE: On Tuesday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif issued an investigation order and placed blame on the involved officials for their inability to resolve the flooding issue brought on by recent rains in Lahore.

The prime minister voiced his anger over the failure to make prompt plans to drain the rainfall during a meeting to examine readiness before anticipated rains in North Punjab, notably Lahore.

He gave orders to the district administration and the province government to address the issue of poor water drainage and to suspend any officials who exhibit carelessness right once.

He said that the residents suffered as a result of the relevant departments' inefficiency. With rains expected in the coming days, the prime minister gave instructions to ensure complete readiness. He stated that the administration should make an emergency plan to address any potential issue brought on by the rains and stay extra vigilant during Eid-ul-Azha.He argued that there should be an immediate resolution to the problems with the purchase of equipment for the city's water drainage system.

In order to prevent the prohibited organisations from participating in the activity, he also gave the necessary authorities tight instructions to supervise the gathering of skins across the region.

The governments were tasked by Prime Minister Shehbaz to create plans for Eid's sanitation and offal disposal.

According to him, separate complaint centres and control rooms must operate round-the-clock for the benefit of the general population, taking into account Eid al-Adha and the rainy season.

The conference was attended by the commissioner of Lahore, Punjab Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman, and other top authorities.
