Following his demand for "law and order" in Russia, Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev will summon an urgent meeting of his Security Council on Sunday, according to his office.
"The head of the government will hear reports from the prime minister (and) heads of the security forces about taking course measures connected to the situation in Russia," Tokayev's office wrote on Twitter. "Action plan is expected to be adopted to neutralise possible negative consequences linked to the situation in the neighbouring friendly country impacting the security of citizens of Kazakhstan and the economy of our country."
Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, contacted Tokayev to update him on the situation in his country before making the statement.
Tokayev emphasised that the situation is a "internal matter" for Russia and urged the restoration of law and order.
