Analysis: As Ukraine intensifies its counteroffensive, the crisis in Moscow is a gift for it.

For Ukraine, the chaos in the Kremlin could not have happened at a worse moment.

For a nation that has been planning for months to launch a counteroffensive intended to strike a fatal blow to the Russian military, what Russian President Vladimir Putin characterised as a "armed rebellion" by Wagner mercenaries is a gift.

In a video footage that has been making the rounds on Ukrainian social media, the now-President Volodymyr Zelensky can be seen relaxing in a comfy chair, cracking open a drink, gathering a dish of popcorn, and grinning eagerly at what appears to be a television.

Late on Friday, as the drama in Russia was playing out, the Ukrainian Defence Ministry tweeted a brief message. "We're looking,"

After 16 months of all-out combat, the Ukrainian people are now forced to witness the Russian invaders battling among themselves.

Ukraine began its much awaited counteroffensive earlier this month, according to an announcement. According to the Defence Ministry, the results to yet have been modest, consisting of the freeing of eight tiny settlements, covering an area of 113 square kilometres or 44 square miles.

On Friday, the CNN team in southern Ukraine was right on the front lines. What we observed was a sizable concentration of soldiers, weapons—many of them the newest Western weaponry—and other machinery ready to advance.

Mykhailo Podolyak, a presidential adviser, claims that the offensive is already producing results before it even enters its primary phase.

In a message to the media, he said that "the start of the Ukrainian counteroffensive has finally destabilised the Russian elites, exacerbating the internal split that emerged after the defeat in Ukraine."

President Zelensky tweeted at noon in Kyiv that "the longer Russia keeps its troops and mercenaries on our land, the more chaos, pain, and problems it will have for itself later."

It appears like those issues are becoming worse by the hour.
