ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Asad Umar fled court premises on Tuesday in a desperate attempt to avoid being arrested after a local court denied them bail in a case connected to May 9 violence.
Several protesters assaulted important government and military facilities in response after the PTI leader was detained on May 9 on suspicion of corruption.
Several party officials and employees were subsequently detained and charged with fomenting discontent and instigating violence.
After being released from jail, Qureshi and Umar stood out as two significant leaders who chose to remain in the party, in contrast to the majority of their former comrades who renounced their party affiliation.
