The West Indies squad revealed on Friday that all-rounder Yannic Cariah and assistant coach Floyd Reifer both need surgery after being hit in the face during practise at the current World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe.

Cariah, a left-handed batter and leg-spinner, injured his nose in the accident last Saturday.

A team official stated, "The surgical procedure was carried out in Harare on Thursday evening."

"Cariah will remain with the squad under the care of the medical team whilst he recovers. A decision on when he can return to play will be made in the coming days, as the medical team support his recovery."

Later, on Wednesday, during a different training session, Reifer received a blow to the face and had a similar operation.

With matches against Zimbabwe on Saturday and the Netherlands on Monday in the first round, West Indies will have already defeated the United States and Nepal in the qualification competition.
