Aside from Shohei Ohtani, credible contenders for the American and National league MVPs will eventually emerge. After all, almost any player may have a successful month, and a successful half for a team.

Perhaps the term sustainability is familiar to you.

However, the most important contribution from a team's most valued player might come at any point, even in the first half. And perhaps that comes from a place where his team needs it the most, rather than through standard counting or rating data.

A most valuable player award is given to each Major League Baseball team as a result of the majority of teams having reached or beyond the season's halfway mark, according to USA TODAY Sports:

National League

Orioles of Baltimore: SP I'm Tyler Wells. Although the honour may always go to Adley Rutschman, it is Wells, a 6-8 right-hander with a 0.89 WHIP who has inspired the Orioles' pitching staff and made it possible for them to perform consistently.

Alex Verdugo, OF, Boston Red Sox. He is 27 years old and is having a career year, hitting.302/.374/.471 with a team-best adjusted OPS of 129.

White Sox of Chicago: CF Carlos Robert. He is finally healthy and hitting the ball hard, with 23 home runs already behind his season high of 13.

Guardians of Cleveland: 3B Mr. Jose Ramirez. He's still the guy you don't want to beat you: He leads the major leagues with 11 intentional walks. It would be Ramirez's best.366 OBP in a full season since 2018.

Tigers of Detroit: CF Greene Riley. Greene missed the whole month of June due to a stress fracture in his fibula, and the lineup is still largely dreadful. The least of the Tigers' problems, though, appears to be him because he is expected to return before the break and recorded an.805 OPS in 52 games.

Astros of Houston: DH It's Yordan Alvarez. Recall him? Alvarez's stellar performance, which included 17 home runs, a.978 OPS, and 166 adjusted OPS in 57 games, concealed the reality that five regulars in the lineup had OBPs between.283 and.307. Alvarez's oblique ailment has him out, with no sign of relief in sight.

Royals of Kansas City: SP Mr. Zack Greinke. Greinke, whose 5.31 ERA and average of little more than five innings make him the least ineffective of the three Royals pitchers who have made at least 16 starts. That increases the discomfort of a 22-58 season pass even more.

Angels of Los Angeles: SP/DH Ahtani Shohei. Let's not make things too complicated.
