Instead of tight borders and resistance, refugees require assistance and solidarity. On World Refugee Day on Tuesday, UN leader António Guterres emphasised the need for the international community to support and safeguard refugees.
With 110 million people experiencing forced displacement worldwide, a record number, Mr. Guterres asked for new strategies to resettle refugees and assist them in reestablishing their lives. He also emphasised the need of showing support for the host nation and its people.
The head of the UN declared, "These are not numbers on a page." These are distinct women, children, and men who are travelling in harsh conditions and are frequently subject to abuse, exploitation, and violence.

This Day serves as a reminder of our responsibility to safeguard and assist refugees, as well as to provide additional opportunities for assistance.
"Hope Away From Home" is the topic for this year. The international community was urged by Mr. Guterres, who served as the head of the UNHCR for ten years, to "harness the hope that refugees carry in their hearts."
