Magnus White, an American cyclist who was 17 and was considered a "rising star" in the sport, died in a training accident in Boulder, Colorado.

The tragic news was verified by USA Cycling, the country's national governing organisation for cycling, on Sunday. Magnus was cruelly struck by a car while he was getting ready to compete in the cross-country event at the juvenile mountain bike world championships in Glasgow, Scotland.

Magnus White's family, teammates, friends, and the Boulder community have all received heartfelt sympathies from USA Cycling during this extraordinarily trying time. USA Cycling emphasised its support for the bereaved as they ride in memory of Magnus's love of the sport.Magnus White, who had competed for the US team in the cyclocross world championships in both 2022 and 2023, was well renowned for his remarkable off-road cycling abilities. At the young age of 10, he began competing in national bicycle competitions, exhibiting his commitment to the sport from an early age.

His selection to the Mountain Bike World Championships squad this year, the result of his talent and diligence, was a notable accomplishment for him. Tragically, the terrible tragedy ended his hopes of competing on August 10 in Glasgow.

Magnus White's passion of cycling was greatly influenced by Boulder Junior Cycling, and he rapidly became a rising star in the off-road world.
In addition to his mourning parents, Jill and Michael, Magnus White also leaves behind his sibling, Eero. Family friends started a GoFundMe page in honour of the young athlete, and it has already raised more than $60,000.

The first UCI Cycling World Championships, which are set to take place from August 3 to August 13 in Glasgow and throughout Scotland, will undoubtedly be marked by a sombre and reflective atmosphere as the world remembers the promising talent that has been lost as word of Magnus White's untimely demise spreads throughout the cycling community and beyond.
