Following his team's 2-0 victory over Sri Lanka in the long format, Pakistani captain Babar Azam saw an increase in his Test rating, according to the most recent ICC Men's Test Rankings released on Wednesday.
The captain, a well-known hitter, has moved up two positions to fourth place. Above him are New Zealand's Kane Williamson (first), England's Joe Root (second), and Australia's Steve Smith (third).
Babar benefited from the downgrading of Australians Marnus Labuschagne and Travis Head, who combined for just 76 runs in the recently finished Test series against Sri Lanka.
Despite finishing seventh and eighth in the Ashes Test series, Labuschagne (328) and Head (362) lost their ratings.
Shaheen Shah Afridi has moved up three spots to sixth after taking six wickets in two Tests against Sri Lanka.
Saud Shakeel and Abdullah Shafique, both from Pakistan, are presently ranked 15th and 21st, respectively. In their backyard against Sri Lanka, both hitters hit their first 200-run mark.
Australia's Steve Steve Smith moved up one spot to third after the Ashes series win. The third-highest run-scorer in Ashes Tests, England's Joe Root (412), took second place.
Kane Williamson of New Zealand, who last participated in a Test match in March of this year, kept the top spot with a ranking of 883. Williamson sustained an injury during this season's Indian Premier League (IPL), and it is uncertain that he will play in the forthcoming World Cup.
With a rating of 879, Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is ranked first among bowlers. His fellow countryman Ravindra Jadeja advanced to third place.
Stuart Broad, a seasoned English bowler, achieved fourth place, marking his final ranking before quitting Test cricket.
